COUP DE COEUR
94/100 Parker
Founded by Don Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta at the end of the 19th century, López de Heredia is the heir to a long tradition that continues and grows thanks to the effort, passion and commitment of a family.
The estate includes several vineyards, the most famous and spectacular of which is "Viña Tondonia"; 100 hectares planted at the beginning of the 20th century and located in a shell-shaped depression on the banks of the Ebro. The soils are made up of alluvium and limestone.
The winery, a veritable "cathedral of wine", is made up of numerous buildings and 3,000m2 of underground galleries up to 200m long and 15m deep, housing almost 13,000 barrels.
Special mention should be made of the 72 oak vinification vats from Cantabria, Bosnia, Allier and America. They can contain from 60 hectolitres to 640 hectolitres. Finally, it should be noted that this estate has maintained its cooperage workshop where the master coopers repair and prepare the Bordeaux barrels, not only for tradition, but also to obtain the personality that characterises the wines
