Bernard Baudry seeks the silky and civilised dimension of Chinon wines, while remaining as close as possible to their expression of terroir. This approach, which he is now pursuing with his son Mathieu, is coupled with organic certification. A philosophy that also inspires them to plant non-grafted vines, free-standing for ten years (following the plantings of Charles Joguet in the 1980s), and to establish themselves on new forgotten terroirs, such as the excellent Clos Guillot in Chinon. Their Croix Boissée (clay-limestone terroir in Cravant-les-Coteaux), built for ageing, has an extra velvety and sometimes sweetness in hot years, which is not to be disliked by great lovers of Saint-Émilion wines. This cuvée naturally takes the lead among the great reds of Touraine.

Since the end of the 90s, the Domaine has continued to rise in the hierarchy of the great Chardonnays of Southern Burgundy. The vines are now between 25 and 70 years old on very beautiful climats, Les Quarts and Les Longeays acquired in 1947 by A-J Bret, or in Mâcon Vinzelles on the Clos de Grand-Père. The vines are ideally situated at the top of clay-limestone slopes with a south-east exposure. The practice in the vineyard is exemplary, the wines being certified organic and also biodynamic since 2006 and the yields controlled at 40 hl/ha. The result is highly digestible, mineral wines with exceptional ageing capacity, thanks also to gentle vinification using indigenous yeasts, with very little intervention.
With the Domaine de la Vougeraie, we enter the very closed circle of the greatest wines of Burgundy. The impetus of the Boisset family and the choices made since 1999 have propelled the estate to an impressive level of excellence.
"Julien Labet, with the help of his brother and sister, has taken over his father Alain's vineyards, which are now grouped together under a single entity: Domaine Labet. (...) Numerous micro-parcels (between 15 and 80 ares, often from old vines) are vinified by Julien, both in white (all ouillés) and in red, the latter being perhaps the most exceptional to be born today in the region. Sulphur levels are very low but the balance is impossible to fault in the wines. The estate is now one of the spearheads of the Jura revival." RVF Guide 2018

The Michel Bouzereau et Fils estate has been run by Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau (Michel's son) for 25 years now. The vineyard is planted with pinot noir and chardonnay, but the reputation of the estate comes mainly from the chardonnays, especially the prestigious Meursault wines from the best climates of the appellation, such as Tessons, Genevrières or the mythical Perrières in Meursault or Cailleret in Puligny Montrachet Premier Cru. The wines benefit from long maturing periods, 12 or 18 months, and from an ultra-precise vinification process, which produces wines that are easy to digest, with a rare elegance and depth... "Thierry Michon, supported by his sons, Antoine and Mickaël, runs the only estate of international stature in the Vendée. On the Atlantic terroir of Brem, he has vines cultivated entirely in biodynamic methods, whose yields have unfortunately been very low in recent years. Under the influence of the ocean, the vineyard produces whites of chenin and chardonnay (yellow stone fruits and saline finish), and reds of pinot noir aged for a long time (Jacques, La Grande Pièce), but also of gamay, negrette and cabernet franc. This eclecticism is reflected in wines that are constantly gaining in finesse, purity and intensity of fruit. Their natural balance, which is becoming more and more accomplished, makes them affordable when young, but they can age gracefully: don't hesitate to aerate them in a carafe. The brand new cellar will allow the trio of winemakers to further refine their cuvées." RVF Guide 2018

"Eloi and Floriane Dürrbach planted the vineyard in 1973, and continue to make Trévallon one of the jewels in the crown of the French wine industry. Located on the northern slopes of the Alpilles, the 17-hectare vineyard, which has been organically farmed since its origin, is predominantly limestone. The Dürrbachs do not claim to be called Baux-de-Provence, as their grape varieties are totally atypical: Cabernet-Sauvignon and Syrah for the reds, Roussanne and Marsanne for the whites, supplemented by a little Chardonnay. The red, which has become mythical, as well as the white, have real potential. The grumblers of local tannin and INAO would do well to take their cue from the perfectly adequate grape varieties of this vibrant and exemplary vin de pays!" Bettane + Desseauve Guide 2018
"After making wine in Cahors, New Zealand and Tokaj, Sébastien Poly took over this small family estate in 2006. He benefits from a heritage of old vines planted in the 1960s in the granite and clay valley of Taravo, not far from the Comte Abbatucci and Vaccelli estates. He vinifies without yeast, with very little or no sulphite. His wines retain a great aromatic frankness. Certified organic since 2009, he is currently converting to biodynamics, and offers wines of a greediness and digestibility rare in Corsica. Not to be missed." RVF Guide 2018
