Saint-Joseph

The reference to Saint-Joseph... A northern Syrah that exhales pepper, lard and violets: an aromatic palette animated by a superb freshness. The palate is ample and tight, without any imbalance. A wine of great class!

Pierre and Jean Gonon's Saint-Joseph is once again the must-have of the appellation. A dense, precise, firm wine that should be waited for wisely...

The wine has an intense garnet colour with purple tints.
The nose is clean and smooth, typical of the Northern Rhône, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and cherry, followed by smoky notes, then violet and a few peppery touches.
The palate opens up with fullness from the outset.
The evolution reveals a beautiful balance between an elegant tannic framework, with fine tannins, the mineral is underlying.
This wine reveals itself to be deep, with a beautiful freshness which brings an interesting balance. The aromatic expression of the nose is confirmed on the palate, with a dominant blackcurrant flavour.
The finish is long and spicy.

Pierre and Jean own their vines in Mauves, Tournon-sur-Rhône and Saint-Jean de Muzols, three of the six communes that initially made up the appellation before the extension of the AOC in 1969.
Tasting a Saint-Joseph from this estate therefore allows you to discover the typicity that justified the creation of the appellation! This is all the more true with this estate as the vinification carried out in the traditional way (whole crop, fermentation using indigenous yeasts, ageing in old demi-muids) and the work done in the vineyard (organic farming in the process of being certified, working the soil, no pruning.
In the cellar, one becomes truly aware of this work of goldsmith when one is led to taste the different parcels of the estate on cask, each of which expresses itself in a singular way.
