Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers Vieilles Vignes

1947 is an inspiring date in the wine world. This is not the vintage but the year the vines were planted. The oldest parcel of the estate is also its flagship cuvée. It is the most constant in the cellar. To put it simply: the wine is always good... Its colour is intense and the nose is no less so: it delivers complex notes of black cherry, blackcurrant, with a hint of pepper to boot. The palate is full-bodied and displays a particularly sustained retro-olfaction. A concentrated Chambolle.

Food and wine pairing: Bresse capon

With levels of ripeness that are unusual in Burgundy, the 2018 vintage is shaping up to be a great year. The wines are marked by great concentration, smoothness and beautiful aromatic intensity. However, the spring was rather tricky to manage in the vineyards. Humidity set in for many weeks. Finally, in mid-June, particularly hot, sunny and dry weather set in. The first pruning shears were used on 31 August, to harvest grapes that were full of sugar and in perfect health. Above all, we had to be on our guard to prevent the berries from taking on a figgy character. This is a prerequisite for preserving the freshness and aromatic precision that are the joy of lovers of the great Burgundian Pinot Noirs. In vinification, the fermentations were sometimes tumultuous and required constant monitoring: the yeasts became lazy at the end of the vatting process. A year that will be remembered, especially since Marine Sigaut, daughter of Anne and Hervé, has joined the estate and brings all her energy to exports and communication.

Terroir : In the northern sector of the appellation below the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, the soil here has a pronounced clay character. It is also a terroir where we find limestone rocks from different geological periods, which explains a certain diversity of soils and subsoils. The Côte de Nuits in miniature...
