A rarity!
The cuvée "Hommage à Louis Derré" is a cuvée created in 2000 from 80 to 100 year old vines. This cuvée combines the usual extraction work with the concentration and complexity linked to the age of the vines.
APPELLATION:
- Coteaux du Loir red
VARIETY:
- Pineau d'Aunis 100 %. Vines 80 to 100 years old
TERROIR:
- Clay and siliceous clay with flint on tufa. The presence of strong clays is favoured for the red terroirs
VITICULTURE:
- Soil work: ploughing, stubble removal and scraping. No weeding.
- Maximum yield 25 hl/ha. Manual harvesting
VINIFICATION:
- One month in open vats for alcoholic fermentation with punching of the cap, systematic blending of free-run wine and press wine, natural malolactic fermentation in recent barrels.
- Aged for one year in barrels of 3 to 5 wines.
- The balance obtained is the work of nature
TASTING:
- 2002: Sweet scents of ripe red fruit with notes of humus and Havana, then, with aeration, fragances of rose petals, violets and peony. The attack is frank, tonic and fruity. The wine is pure, straight and long. It gains in power through the presence of tight and fine tannins that structure the finish. One can sense in this great wine an astonishing breed and personality. - Service: decant for a good hour before serving at 18°C.
- Food pairing: partridge and pheasant casserole. Pair with an Ossau Iraty (a high mountain sheep's cheese) aged for two years
