A very fresh and tasty parcel, more powerful than usual in this 2015. Carlan comes from a sandstone and schist soil from the commune of Saint Privat.

Score : 17 RVF

All the know-how of this wonderful winemaker shines through in this vintage. The 2011 Carlan Grenaches bring a bright and ripe fruit, still a little compressed by the ageing, but which time will harmonize.

This cuvée is an "extract" of sandstone and schist from the commune of Saint Privat. Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault come together to make this very fine wine.
Gourmet on the palate without forgetting a juicy and precise substance. Admirable maturation, remaining very close to the grape, gives crisp and smooth tannins. The pleasure will be there with every glass.

The estate :

More than any other winemaker in the Languedoc, Olivier Jullien commands the admiration and respect of his peers; he is one of the main architects of the renaissance of rigorous viticulture in the region, seeking the nuanced combination of soils and varied native grape varieties, in red and white, on the terraces of Larzac. The sincerity of this visionary who shuns competition is reflected in his wines, which are deep, digestible and generous, southern in their intensity and variety of flavours, not simply in the ripeness of the grapes and their illusory richness in alcohol. Fresh, full-bodied reds, carefully matured, but also a magnificent white that is out of fashion, capable of shining for more than fifteen years of ageing. The wines of this estate are now a reference.

Located in Jonquières, about forty kilometres north of Montpellier, the estate covers about fifteen hectares. Olivier Jullien works numerous micro-parcels spread over a vast area on the high terraces of the Hérault. The soil is mainly clay with limestone pebbles, but some plots are also composed of silica or sandstone, which leads to an enormous diversity of expression.

The vines are worked according to the rules of biodynamics and the estate was certified as Organic until 2006. But Olivier Jullien gave up certification for the sake of independence. Low yields, manual harvest, fermentation in barrels or demi-muids, ageing in barrels or tuns.

The Estate Mas Jullien
