A very nice peaty discovery!
The famous Swedish distillery releases its new single malt, where the smoked juniper flavours and the sweetness of the vanilla aroma are exalted. Beware, do not be mistaken! Underneath its youthful, almost fluffy exterior, this Mackmyra actually shows impressive maturity and strength of character. From start to finish, it explores all the nuances of peat and smoke, always keeping in mind the need to preserve a maximum of complexity and subtlety. While intimately linked, each stage of the tasting is nonetheless very much on its own. RÖK blows a wind of freedom that acts like a bath of youth.
Profile: malted barley, liquoriceand herbaceous smoke. Vetiver, iris, lily of the valley. Coconut milk. Camphor and nutmeg. Candied lemons. Ashes.

TASTING NOTE
- Colour: bright gold.
- Nose: intense, fresh, malty. The malted barley is covered with a liquorice and herbaceous smoke of great elegance. Perfumed, it then reveals notes of vetiver, iris and lily of the valley. Coconut milk enhances its lactic character, while camphor and nutmeg make it increasingly spicy. Finally, candied lemons pierce a veil of smoke and ash.
- Palate: soft, tender, the attack is also delicately liquorice and vegetal (cut hay, straw). Invigorating bitters (zest, dark chocolate) lead the mid-palate towards juicy fruits (pear, white grape) and exotic fruits (banana, pineapple). Gourmet, it becomes increasingly oily and creamy. Green olives and fresh cream cohabit in an original and harmonious way.
- Finish: fine, remarkably balanced. Smoke has taken over from the peat. Animal (bacon), it is also marine (smoked salmon). Fine ginger roots emerge from a dry, cracked earth. Full of vitality, it continues with delicious fruity notes (fresh walnut, white currant). Mineral, the empty glass oscillates between white flowers and smoked malted barley.
THE BRAND
Located in the province of Gästrikland, the Mackmyra distillery opened its doors in 1999. Unique in many ways, Mackmyra is the only Swedish distillery to produce whisky. It uses barley of Swedish origin to produce its single malts. The water comes from an underground spring fed by the Valboåsen mountains. Part of the whisky stock is stored in 100-litre casks. But Mackmyra also uses ex-first fill bourbon casks, which are stored 50 metres underground in the Bodäs mine. It also uses Swedish new oak barrels from a forest on the island of Visingsö, planted more than 160 years ago to provide wood for the navy's ships.
