L’Orto est un vin blanc minéral, exaltant le goût de son terroir si particulier et en même temps si riche. Seul vin produit sur l'île de San Erasmo, face à Venise, il a été élu meilleure malvoisie d’Italie.
Depuis plusieurs siècles, l’île de San Erasmo est réputée pour la qualité de ses produits agricoles qui fournissent le marché de Venise.
Au 16ème siècle, lors de l’âge d’or de Venise, l’île était recouverte de vignobles…puis au 17ème siècle, l’activité viticole a cessé d’exister.
En s’installant sur l’île de San Erasmo, Michel Thoulouze et sa famille ont décidé de faire revivre le vin de la cité des Doges. Mais faire un très bon vin est encore une autre affaire… Pour y parvenir, il s’est entouré d’Alain Graillot qui a méticuleusement sélectionné les bon cépages.
Afin de donner à ce vin, le goût premier du vin (d’avant le philoxera), les plants ont été greffés sur une vigne franc de pied et non pas sur pieds américains. C’est sans aucun doute, l’une des raisons de la qualité de ce vin vénitien.
Issu d’un assemblage de cépages antiques italiens (Vermentino et Fiano) autour de la Malvoisie Istrienne.

The Estate Orto Di Venezia
A vineyard on the water...

In the 16th century, the Island of San Erasmo, "the garden of Venice", was covered with vineyards. Michel Thoulouze, a former journalist and audiovisual producer, set himself the challenge of reviving the wine of Venice.
He took on the advice of Lydia and Claude Bourguignon for the work on the soil and Alain Graillot to obtain a wine that exudes this marine earth. The selection of grape varieties was naturally based on ancient varieties from Northern Italy. The ancestral drainage system has been restored to provide the vines with the fresh water they need.

As the lagoon's ecosystem protects against phylloxera, the vines were planted as free-standing. The wine is therefore more marked by its terroir and particularly the saline side.
