Power and strength as usual in this 2017 Gruenspiel. Generally dry, tight, deep and tannic. Aromas of chocolate, smoked pear and spice. Velvety and complex on the mid-palate, persistent and expressive on the finish.

An open amphitheatre facing south, overlooking the grand crus of Ribeauvillé, this Bergheim terroir, one of the highest quality in the area, takes its poetic name from the checkerboard pattern that expresses the heterogeneous nature of the surface soil, which is made up of a variety of grapes.the soil is made up of torrential deposits of sandstone, granite and sometimes gneiss, laid on a deep matrix of Keuper lake marl.

These dominant characteristics of the grape varieties planted (Riesling, Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer) give the wine a phenomenal length, a slightly tannic structure and a very good balance.the wine has a phenomenal length, a slightly tannic structure, a power barely rounded by the warm minerality so particular to the rolled gravel.

An iron hand in a velvet glove!

A great wine, fat and concentrated, mineral and spicy, but also particularly fruity.

Orange peel, star anise, blond tobacco and graphite intermingle with the serene and taut structure.

An expressive and bewitching nose of tobacco, yellow-fleshed fruits (vine peach, mirabelle plum) and sweet spices (star anise, vanilla..). The imposing, luminous palate is taut with a mineral acidity that unfolds in a racy unctuousness. A great wine for laying down, to be enjoyed now with poultry, lightly spiced dishes or tartar.

Serve now. Open three hours before serving. Ageing potential: 20 years

The Estate Marcel Deiss

The Marcel Deiss estate is undoubtedly one of the most exciting estates. Located in Bergheim in the heart of the most beautiful Alsatian terroirs, the family estate now has 27 hectares of vines on 220 separate plots where three Grand Crus and nine Premier Crus are produced each year. On these fabulous terroirs, Jean-Michel Deiss and his son Mathieu, winegrowers in the noblest sense of the word, are always looking for excellence, for the best possible combination between the grape varieties planted and the soil, in a perpetual quest for the best identity to give to their wines. In biodynamic viticulture, which is a given here... The complantation is the great particularity of the Marcel Deiss estate, which practices the art of associating the grape varieties on the same terroir to reveal it at its best, as did their Alsatian ancestors elsewhere. A fair return to the origins in short. Three families of wines are defined: - the fruit wines; greedy wines faithful to their grape variety, always remarkably well balanced. - the wines of time; affected by noble rot and requiring patience to blossom and deliver all their greatness. - terroir wines; the most exciting wines of the Marcel Deiss estate because of their constitution and their aromatic complexity, deep, salivating wines, which only ask to be expressed, as if personified by the terroir... The power and depth of the Burg, the minerality and straightness of the Schoffweg, the sanguine and volcanic character of the Burlenberg, the richness and almost infinite complexity of the Schoenenbourg, the masterly balance of the Altenberg de Bergheim, the spherical and dry sweetness of the Mambourg... Great art... The greatest critics salute the performance in the exercise of style which borders on perfection vintage after vintage. Come and discover this fabulous palette of wine artists from the Marcel Deiss estate, among the elite in the world wine hierarchy. You will have to compose the ideal food-wine pairing according to the vintage for an optimal tasting and a moment rich in emotions. Enjoy and consume these nectars in moderation.
