Le Génépi traditionnel des Pères Chartreux
Genepi" is a generic term given by the locals to several aromatic plants (aromatics) of the Alps. For the mountain people, the tradition is to harvest these plants in August and macerate them in alcohol.
The Carthusian monks, who have been distilling plants for more than 400 years, have their own secret recipe for Génépi, which includes several macerations and distillations. This particular process allows the alpine plants to deliver all their aromas.
All these liqueurs, based on a recipe from a 16th or 17th century grimoire, were made by the Carthusian Fathers; their commercialisation allows their Community to survive and to continue to pray in silence and solitude, according to the inspiration of Saint Bruno.
