A great success on this very great vintage in Margaux! Beautiful floral nose, evolving towards rice powder, great Margaux classic in perspective, already a lot of length.

The 2016 Rauzan-Ségla is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, aged in 60% new and 40% one-year-old barrels for 18 months. Medium to deep garnet in colour, it sings of lifted red and black cherries, black raspberries and cassis with underlying rose hip tea and lilac, tobacco sparks, pencil shavings and plowed earth. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant and mineral with firm, fine tannins and a lovely freshness, finishing with good length and depth.

This superb 2nd Growth of Margaux, already renowned in the 18th century, came into the hands of the Wertheimer family (Chanel) in 1994.

A major overhaul has been carried out: the vineyard has been enlarged and the technical installations modernised, to give the wine its former glory. Of the 72 hectares of vines, 61% are Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Rauzan-Séglais managed by Nicolas Audebert. The vinification is supervised by the oenologist Eric Boissenot.

A great classic Margaux, racy and elegant, with a beautiful freshness and tannic straightness that carries each vintage far into the future.

The Estate Rauzan Ségla
