Orto is a mineral white wine, exalting the taste of its particular and at the same time rich terroir.
It is theonly wine produced on the island of San Erasmo, opposite Venice, and has been voted the best malvasia in Italy.
For centuries, the island of San Erasmo has been renowned for the quality of its agricultural products which supply the market of Venice.
In the 16th century, during the golden age of Venice, the island was covered with vineyards...then in the 17th century, the wine business ceased to exist.
By settling on the island of San Erasmo, Michel Thoulouze and his family have decided to revive the wine of the city of the Doges. But making a very good wine is another matter... To achieve this, he has surrounded himself with Alain Graillot who has meticulously selected the right grape varieties.
In order to give this wine the original taste of the wine (before the Philoxera), the plants were grafted onto a free-standing vine and not onto American vines. This is undoubtedly one of the reasons for the quality of this Venetian wine.
Made from a blend of ancient Italian grape varieties (Vermentino and Fiano) around the Istrian Malvasia.

The Estate Orto Di Venezia
A vineyard on the water...

In the 16th century, the Island of San Erasmo, "the garden of Venice", was covered with vineyards. Michel Thoulouze, a former journalist and audiovisual producer, set himself the challenge of reviving the wine of Venice.
He took on the advice of Lydia and Claude Bourguignon for the work on the soil and Alain Graillot to obtain a wine that exudes this marine earth. The selection of grape varieties was naturally based on ancient varieties from Northern Italy. The ancestral drainage system has been restored to provide the vines with the fresh water they need.

As the lagoon's ecosystem protects against phylloxera, the vines were planted as free-standing. The wine is therefore more marked by its terroir and particularly the saline side.
