La Janasse
The Domaine de la Janasse is among the elite of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Some forty years ago, Aimé Sabon was already fully convinced of the quality of the terroirs of Courthezon and has gradually increased the size of his vineyard to 90 hectares on the most beautiful soils and best exposures of the appellation. About sixty parcels make up the vineyard with very specific terroirs allowing for blends of great class and a rare complexity, giving pride of place to the king grape here, Grenache. This does not prevent the estate from using all of the 13 grape varieties authorised for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and also from producing high quality Côtes du Rhône.
Since 1991, Christophe Sabon has carried on the tradition of the estate and has gradually made La Janasse one of the most sought-after wines in the flagship appellation of the Southern Rhône Valley.
The talented winegrower and his entire team claim 4 guiding principles:
- - respect for the terroir and the environment
- - careful and reasoned work in the vineyard
- - vinification and maturation adapted to seek the expression of the terroirs
- - marketing through quality distribution networks
We can add to this line of conduct the implementation of a double sorting in the vineyard which allows us to obtain a healthy and mature harvest, which also explains the great constancy of the estate vintage after vintage.
The wines of La Janasse are often praised by the greatest critics, notably Robert Parker himself, who has already awarded his supreme mark of 100/100 to the cuvée vieilles vignes twice, in 2007 and 2010... Whether it is the cuvée domaine, Chaupin or the prestigious Vieilles Vignes, the Châteauneuf-du-Pape de la Janasse are wines with a powerful style and an aromatic complexity that classify them among the greatest wines of the region and which are moreover marvellous companions for the table.
