La Grande des Pères
La Grange des Pères belongs to the very restricted circle of wines that every wine lover would like to have tasted at least once in his or her life, an almost mythical wine, so great is its reputation... The talented winemaker Laurent Vaillé has raised this wine to the top of the Languedoc and beyond.
The success has been dazzling since 1992, the first vintage of the "GDP". The wines are coveted by all wine lovers. The wines are of exemplary consistency and age admirably.
Situated on the terroir of Aniane, on the heights of the Arboussas massif, the vines of a total surface area of 11 hectares literally bathe in an ocean of pebbles. The red wine is predominantly Syrah and Mourvèdre with about 20% Cabernet-Sauvignon and a little Counoise. As for the rare white, it is blended with Roussanne, Marsanne, Chardonnay and Gros Manseng. Yields are in the order of 20 to 25 hectolitres per hectare.
Laurent Vaillé, over the last few vintages, seems to have reached a new level with wines of exceptional dimension. For more than 20 years, he has learned to tame this very special terroir and, with all the humility that characterises him, he has produced a singular and captivating work of art, vintage after vintage..
La Grange des Pères is a wine of great breed, with floral, spicy, velvety and sapid flavours at the same time. And unfortunately, it is highly contingent..
