An explosion of flavours! The Alamos Torrontés wine is a very aromatic wine from native grape Torrontés deemed and considered the signing of the Argentine white wine. The vines are cultivated at high altitude, giving wine to a wide bouquet of floral aromas. On the nose, it offers us many fresh notes of lemon and fishing, intermingled with scents of jasmine and fresh herbs. We'll also find hints of toffee and chocolate.
At the foot of the covered summits of eternal snow of the Andes, is the largest vineyard of Argentina (145 000 ha i.e. 70%of the Argentine vineyard). Being recognized as the best wine country of Argentina, most of the areas are installed there. This area brings together total 21 areas that produce million hectolitres per year. No wonder therefore that Mendoza is really the epicenter of the Argentine wine industry.
The Bodega Catena Zapata was founded in 1902 as a result of the immigration of the Catena family, of Italian origin, in Luján de Cuyo region a few kilometers from Mendoza.
This province is considered to be the most conducive to the cultivation of the vine. Nicolas Catena has several vineyards planted at high altitudes on the foothills of the Andes.
There are the vineyards of "Tikal" planted at 950 m altitude of 5 hectares, the vineyard "Angelica" planted to 860 m altitude of 79 hectares and the vineyards of "Luca" planted 30 m altitude of 35 hectares. It is led by the younger brother, Jorge Catena, graduated from the University of Davis, California, and under the tutelage of Nicolas Catena wine, that the vineyards and winemaking techniques were modernized. His California experience, he set up a research program in order to locate the best microclimates and the best soils for plant varieties, french, Italian and Californian. The vinification is headed by José Galante since 1975. José experience goes back to the area of Simi in California as well as a long stay in the Bordeaux region, in Burgundy and Chablis. The Director of viticulture is Pedro Marchevsky since 1972. The domain sells its wines under three labels: Catena Alta, Catena and Alamos.
